Course Description
Intermediate dance is the second level of the Walden Grove dance program. All dancers must audition to be in this level. Dancers will apply their knowledge from Beginning dance and progress their technical skills and choreography in all areas of dance. Dancers will continue to explore different styles and disciplines that compose a dance education including hip-hop, jazz, ballet, tap, contemporary, and more. We will also continue to study the disciplines of technique, musicality, choreography, positive self image, dance class etiquette, conditioning, and respect for others and the space. Students will dive deeper into the choreographic process at the Intermediate level.

Class will consist of warm up, conditioning, across the floor, center combination, performance, and reflection. It will also consist of learning new dance terminology according to the style being studied. Students will participate in weekly movement studies throughout the year in which they will have the opportunity to learn and grow in their choreographic techniques as young artists.

Artistic expression will be developed most successfully when students maintain open-minded attitudes regarding their own creative work and the work of others. Students will be directly involved in each other's learning by working collaboratively. Every student should try their best when learning new styles of movement. Daily effort and a positive attitude equal improvement! Students will not be graded on their ability to execute, but rather their effort and improvements.

Dance Showcase
The Intermediate Dance class will perform two class pieces in the annual end of the year Walden Grove Dance Showcase. Each piece will be a different style and choreographed by both Ms. Lopez and the TA. Intermediate students also have the opportunity to audition for upper level student choreography pieces in the showcase if they desire to add to their performance repertoire.
