Advanced Dance is the highest level of the Walden Grove Dance Program, not including the PAC dance team.  This level of the program studies all styles and aspects of a dance education and moves at the quickest pace technically and choreographically.  Students must be able to learn quickly in order to keep up.  Students must audition in order to be placed into Advanced Dance.  Students will need to be open and available to a few extra performance opportunities throughout the school year at school events.

Class will consist of warm up, conditioning, across the floor, center combinations, performance, and reflection.  It will also consist of learning new performance pieces often.  Students will be expected to learn and remember choreography well, while being able to perform at the highest level. Attendance is most important in the Advanced class due to the amount of choreography being learned and performed throughout the school year.

Artistic expression will be developed most successfully when students maintain open-minded attitudes regarding their own creative work and the work of others.  Students will be directly involved in each other's learning by working collaboratively. Every student should try his/her best when learning new styles of movement.  Daily effort and a positive attitude equal improvement!  Students will not be graded on their ABILITY to execute, but rather their effort and improvements.

Course Description
Dance Showcase

The Advanced class will hold a large responsibility in putting on, and performing in, the annual end of the year Walden Grove Dance Showcase. The class will participate in 3-4 class performance pieces of all different styles for the annual showcase, lead by the TA and Ms. Lopez.  Students in Advanced will also have the opportunity to create dances for the showcase (student choreography) through an audition process. They may also audition for other student work to add to their performance repertoire.  The class will begin working on their showcase pieces at the end of first semester. The class costume fee is $45.00 per student.  For more information on the Dance Showcase click the 'showcase' tab.
