WALDEN GROVE DANCE

The Beginning Dance class is the first level of the Walden Grove Dance program. Dancers do not need any former training in order to be able to participate in beginning dance.  All are welcome! No audition is necessary, just availability in a students schedule and a passion for dance, learning, and people! Beginning dance is slow pace with high energy, leaving no one behind and creating a dancer out of EVERYONE who walks through the door!

Beginning dancers will explore the different styles and disciplines that comprise a dance education.  Some styles will include hip-hop, jazz, ballet, and contemporary, although the class is mostly hip-hop driven.  Dancers will also study the disciplines of technique, musicality, choreography/movement studies, positive self image, dance class etiquette, conditioning, performance, and respect for others.

Class will consist of warm up, conditioning, across the floor, center combinations, performance, and reflection.   It will also consist of learning new dance terminology according to the style being studied.  Students will also be participating in movement studies throughout the year in which they will have the opportunity to learn the choreographic process and techniques and in class performances.

 

Artistic expression will be developed most successfully when students maintain open-minded attitudes regarding their own creative work and the work of others.  Students will be directly involved in each other's learning by working collaboratively.  Every student should try his/her best when learning new styles of movement.  Daily effort and a positive attitude equal improvement!  Students will not be graded on their ABILITY to execute, but rather their effort and improvements.
